Northeastern North Carolina borders Virginia along the Cities of Chesapeake and Suffolk. The Outer Banks consist of a string of narrow islands and and peninsulas along the North Carolina Coast. This area has vast expanses of water and seashore along with National Parks and Recreation Areas. The Wright Brothers National Memorial is located at Kill Devil Hills on Route 158. An interesting stretch of the inland waterway traverses the area.
